Anesthesiology

General information:
The anesthesiology department works with approximately 150 people (about 75 staff members and about 75 physician assistants) within a state of the art operation complex, with 23 operating rooms and a 24-hour recovery. The UMCG is an academic hospital that provides clinical care in a wide area. Therefore there is a variety of specialties and multiple anesthesia techniques. The department performs various educational content and organizational roles in both the teaching of Curriculum 2010 and the new Curriculum 2020. The research of the department is embedded in the research school GUIDE (Groningen University Institute for Drug Exploration) of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the University of Groningen. Research is being conducted at clinical, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and technological areas.

Offers for students:
To get in touch with the anesthesiology it is possible for second and third year medical students to spend a day with an anesthesiologist (in training). It is also possible to run a semi-doctor internship or to run a research internship for 20 weeks each.
